Beekeepers recorded losses in Three Streams – RS

The producer Alfonso Goetter lost 33 that 57 hives owned by you, located on the Santa Cruz line, in the municipality of Três Arroios. Beekeeper Gilmar Keller, Goetter's son-in-law and responsible for the apiary, accounts for a direct loss of R $ 6.600,00. If taking into account the production losses related to the next harvests, this value can be up to three times higher.

“My dream was to have 100 hives, but it is difficult to reach this number ”, lamenta cellar. The suspicion, depending on the symptoms presented, according to him, is that bees have been intoxicated with some type of pesticide. He estimates that the death toll could be even greater than that found in the apiary, because of the possible loss of swarms that live in the environment and are not managed, like those housed in stones, tocos, houses or even in rustic hives near the property.

According to Emater / RS-Ascar, in the Alto Uruguay region the number of hives and beekeepers is decreasing, due to the problems that affect the creation. The main one is the indiscriminate use of pesticides in crops near the apiaries. “Few young people are interested in the activity and those who like the practice are discouraged by the occurrence of problems like this. The decrease in the number of hives makes honey a less offered product, could become rare in the near future ”, comments Emater / RS-Ascar regional technical assistant, Carlos Angonese.
