JESUS SANTIAGO MOURE, THE SCIENTIST PRIEST
It is with great pride that I pay my simple tribute, the week that Fathers Day is celebrated (4 August 2020), to my dear teacher, the scientist and priest Jesus Santiago Moure, renowned researcher specialized in bee taxonomy and who even carried out, for my happiness, between the five marriage ceremonies of his ecclesiastical career, my wedding. O Pe. Move, from Ribeirão Preto-SP, founder of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Univ. Federal of Paraná, Curitiba-PR and creator of Dep. of Zoology, institution where I started my university studies, was one of the most brilliant researchers at the University of Paraná and known worldwide for his knowledge of bee morphology and systematics – your great passion! Self-taught, graduated in Philosophy (including Natural History, Physics and mathematics ) by the Claretian Seminary of Rio Claro-SP and in Theology by the Claretian Seminary of Curitiba-PR, he knew Latin, Greek, English, French, Spanish and Hebrew and had more than 260 published scientific work on bees, having visited the main existing museums in the world. In addition to your religious participation, its wide educational and scientific performance in our country is notorious, highlighting the foundation of SBPC, from CNPq, CAPES and the creation of the Brazilian Society of Entomology and Brazilian Society of Zoology, having received the highest awards granted by the Brazilian government to scientists, as Commander of the National Order of Scientific Merit in 1955 and the Grand Cross of the National Order of Scientific Merit in 1998. O Pe. Moure officially retired in 1982, to 70 years, but kept its activities until 2005, when he returned to the House of Claretian Missions in Batatais-SP, having died in 10/7/2010 with your 97 years. To dear Father Scientist our affectionate posthumous tribute.
