Ornithologist Tomaz Nascimento de Melo was studying birds in Acre, in the Serra do Divisor, when he was surprised by another animal. Unintentionally, discovered an unprecedented fact involving the species. Unpublished and very curious: the attack of a giant armadillo on a stingless bee hive, native bees from Brazil.

The giant armadillo is the largest armadillo in the world and science had no record of it feeding on bees in the wild. The Terra da Gente team chatted with Tomaz to find out details of this discovery.

The report was aired on the Terra da Gente program on 08 from May of 2021 and can be found at the link: https://g1.globo.com/sp/campinas-regiao/terra-da-gente/noticia/2021/05/07/registro-inedito-mostra-maior-tatu-do-mundo-se-alimentando-de-abelhas-no-acre.ghtml.
