Project "Holiday in the Woods" brought together over 9 thousand visitors in two weeks of activities
The title “The Cupids of the Forest” of the project “Holidays in the Forest” attracted the attention of the visiting public to the theme of pollination and sustainability of green areas: animals and plants need each other to survive.
During the third and fourth weeks of January, the Environmental Planning and Education Division, of the Municipal Secretariat for the Environment, carried out through the PEA – Environmental Education Program, operated jointly by the Environment and Education Secretariats – the project “Holidays in the Forest”, achieving great public success with more than 9 thousand visitors.
in the first week, between the days 16 is 18 of January, the Municipal Forest and Zoo “Dr. Fábio Barreto" received approximately 3 thousand visitors interested in the project. IS, next week, between 23 is 27 janeiro, the visits have doubled, almost 6 a thousand people passed through there.
IS, no sunday, day 27 of January, to end the schedule, the 3rd Educational Fair “Pelo Mundo das Abelhas” took place, organized by the PEA in partnership with the NGO “Bee or Not to Be”.
Total, more than 9 thousand visitors were able to enjoy all the Environmental Education activities carried out by the project and conceived by the PEA to enrich the children's vacation schedule, young people and family members who walked through the forest.
The theme of "Cupids of the Forest" highlighted the fact that some animals are essential in the reproduction process of 70% of the plants that bear flowers and fruits.
The cupids metaphor helps explain that these animals are, as a matter of fact, responsible for the pollination service, so, when bees, Beetles, birds and butterflies and other pollinating agents carry pollen grains from one flower to another, fertilizing the flowers and contributing to food production., for genetic diversity and for maintaining the balance of the entire ecosystem.
The idea of co-evolution is also very important and has been extensively explored. The flower offers resources that attract pollinators and needs their service to bear fruit, so, one can't live without the other! Bees are always great examples: many plants depend on bee pollination, and bees depend on the pollen and nectar offered by their flowers..
six seasons, in different parts of the forest, were prepared to bring knowledge about pollen, pollination and pollinators. During activities, the children were able to learn a little more about the ecological interactions that occur naturally in this Atlantic Forest biome.
Children of all ages also enjoyed the “treasure hunt” game: the playful strategy was to make the participants follow some clues until reaching the “Giants of the Forest”. That's how many got to know some centuries-old trees and learned to recognize other tree species present in the park..
Who went for a walk in the woods on Sunday, day 27, he was still able to take advantage of the Educational Fair to attend 3 speeches, meet different species of bees, learn about honey and nectariferous plants, taste different types of honey and learn about many cosmetic and herbal products made from honey, pollen, propolis and other bee products.
